Do not use a personal Apple ID in any MMI device. Please create a new Apple ID using your work email address instead. Just head over to https://appleid.apple.com/account and follow the instructions there (if needed, read http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1918 too). Use '@modmed.com' for the Apple ID and '@modernizingmedicine.com' for the recovery email. Stuck? Reach Corp IT at mmit.zendesk.com and we will help you with this process.
Notice that Corp IT will deploy technologies to make sure all Apple IDs used for/in MMI's systems are tied to MMI email addresses. If a personal Apple ID is found, the user/owner will be required to change it.
- Why can't I use my personal Apple ID?
The risk of information leakage to unauthorized third-parties is higher when a personal Apple ID is used to manage MMI data. And a leakage, if found, much harder to control from a technology standpoint.
- I do not currently use iCloud or Apple IDs. Do I have to start using them?
No, but if in the future you have to start using them, make sure to create a new Apple ID tied to your MMI email address.
- Don't I need an Apple ID to install apps on my Mac?
Generally speaking, you won't need one. Please use MSC to manage apps on your Mac. However, you will need an Apple ID to install most apps in your MMI iPad; make sure to create a new Apple ID tied to your work email address.
- I use iCloud to backup MMI files, contacts, and calendars. Is there an alternative?
Yes, please use G Suite (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, etc) instead. Stuck? Reach Corp IT at mmit.zendesk.com and we will help you with this process.
- Will all iCloud features work with an MMI Apple ID?
Yes. All iCloud features such as "Continuity" and Find My iPhone will continue to work.
However, please do not use Family Sharing in any MMI device. Under some circumstances, enabling Family Sharing may be a violation of our HIPAA security policy, Data Security Program.
